When Hurricane Stan hit Guatemala, the municipality of Tecpán was devastated by flooding and mudslides, as were most areas in the country. In Tecpán resides the new school we constructed with our partner PAVA in 2005.

Here you see how the dirt roads were converted into rivers by the excessive amounts of rain that fell for 5 days. This is the same road that leads to La Giralda's new school.

We donated a sum of $1000 to PAVA in order to help with PAVA's re-building projects.

Many were left without homes as the water cut its new path through the small pueblo of La Giralda.

As the water began to clear out, the mud became the next problem.

The people of La Giralda salvaged what they could.

The school remains standing and virtually untouched by the floods. La Giralda's residents used the concrete building as a refuge immediately after the storm hit.
